Periodontist in Pasadena

If you’re a San Gabriel Valley resident dealing with bleeding gums, halitosis (aka bad breath), and/or tooth or gum pain, then seeking out a periodontist for periodontal care in Pasadena is definitely the right thing to do. Here at Premier Care Dental Group, we know that anyone with gum problems has lots of company. Indeed, studies show that just slightly less than half of Americans actually have gums that are compromised to some extent – and most of them probably don’t even know it!

Even if your gums seem normal, but you haven’t been to the dentist in a long time, there is a significant chance you have a periodontal issue. The sooner you get it dealt with, the better. If you have symptoms, then it’s really time to get started.

Treating Periodontal Problems

There are basically two ways of dealing with most periodontal problems:

  • For mild cases of gingivitis (gum disease) the treatment is simply doing what patients ought to be doing regardless. Twice yearly teeth cleanings and check-ups with one of our gentle and highly skilled dentists, followed by twice daily brushing for a least two minutes at a time, accompanied by flossing. Your dentist and/or hygienist will give you tips on the best ways to make sure that you get the most out of your dental hygiene routine.
  • For more advanced cases of periodontitis, the usual treatment is what is commonly called a deep cleaning, but which dental professionals refer to as scaling and root planing. Using a topical anesthetic, the dentist will cleans out plaque and other substances below the gum line.
  • For severe cases that can potentially threaten bone structure that supports the teeth, a gingvectomy will be necessary. This is a type of oral surgery that will remove diseased portions of the gum in order to remove the infection and allow the mouth to heal. Sedation dentistry may be an option for many patients getting this treatment.

Periodontal Care with Premier Care Dental Group

Whatever kind of care is appropriate in your case, you can be sure that our team will provide you with expert and gentle treatment that takes your comfort into account at all times.

In fact, we understand that one of the reasons people develop periodontal problems in the first place is that fear of going to the dentist may have discouraged them from seeking treatment. That’s why we are able to provide sedation dentistry options for patients who may be especially nervous about any type of treatment. Dental phobia is a common and highly understandable

problem – after all, your mouth is a sensitive and intimate personal space – but it should never stop anyone from getting the oral care they really need. If you’re nervous about any kind of dental treatment, just let us know and we’ll see what we can do to remove as much stress as possible from the experience.
